2024 In Review, Kinda

This blog has bounced around from various sites since 2011, and it’s been about ten years since I stopped caring about traffic.  Sometime in the late teens the bots got out of hand and the numbers stopped meaning anything.  So much so, that I’ve only had a ticker available on this website since January of 2023, and it has only the barest of functionality.  For the record, here’s what my counter reports as visitors over the last two years.

• 2023: 43,770
• 2024: 69,534

Wow!  A 50% growth rate is amazing!  Or, it would be if, only it was real.

Thanks to bots and AI, the internet is becoming an increasingly untrustworthy place.  Maybe it always was untrustworthy – anyone who ran the faux-welcoming gauntlet of forums like rpg.net can tell you that facades have been around as long as the internet itself – but with the advent of LLMs and bot swarms it’s ever more the case.  Which is why, come what may, I intend to keep the lights on as long as possible here in my little hovel away from the algorithms and computer-generated slop.  New accounts and new places are easy to fake, but quiet and intimate corners of the internet still have their place.  You might not like what you read here, but at least you know it’s genuine.

I hope all your good stuff grew by 50% last year, and it all doubles in 2025.
