Mean Girl: Translated

So there’s this viral video making the rounds in the fitness circuit. I’ll show you a screen cap rather than link to her video because screw this bitch.

What you think she is saying is: haha I thought gymbros were bullies who would mock me for my weaknessee, but they are really nice once you get to know them.

What she is really saying is: when I went to a gym, I realized that they are insecure about their own weakness which means *I* get to mock *THEM* for their weakness teehee.

Bear in mind, her delivery is cloaked in the plausibly deniable sort of cloying sarcasm used by girl bullies and GenX tough guys everywhere. Which is part of the appeal. Her video is a Rorschach test. The good natured jocks will laugh along WITH her, but this doughy woman and her counterparts are laughing AT them. They just don’t see it.

You have to understand that lifting weights is a humbling experience. You can’t sweet talk reality or finesse a false world into being. You can either lift the weight, or you can’t, and all too often…you can’t. That is literally the point of the literal exercise. Consider now that the pursuit of excellence and perfection forces practitioners to face the harsh reality of their literal weaknesses. Weightlifters and bodybuilders, of necessity, focus on the areas that need improvement.

To the uninitiated and the incurious, the quiet admission of imperfections is hard to see. It is much easier to see the physical results of training and the celebrations of success in overcoming weightlifting goals. But predators are good at sniffing out prey. This obnoxious woman spotted that quiet admission of weakness and insecurity, highlighted in her attack by her description of the use of pump covers, and rather than showing compassion and understanding, she wields that knowledge as a weapon.

What a cunt.

The true irony here is that she opens her video with an admission of her own guilt. She was intimidated by the thought of going to the gym because she instinctively believes that people would treat her the way she treats everyone around her. She has placed herself above gymrats by slyly placing herself in the role of judge, jury, and approved – solely by dint of her cunning analysis rather than the gym culture’s usual hierarchy of results and positive feedback. She stands outside the culture, weighing it on scales of her own manufacure. How very typical of her breed.

What she understands more than most is that fitness types are people. Some of them are great. Some of them are awesome. And most of them are somewhere in between. But what miss fatface will never understand is that the people she mocks are better than her in every way. They will never be her people until she ditches the sanctimonious attitude and embraces the humbling honesty of the cult of iron.

And maybe loses ten pounds in the process.
